Writing a Business Plan. You're ready to get your home business started in every way except one. You need money. Either in the form of a loan or from investors, but where do you start? One thing you will need before you can get capital for your business is a business plan.
What’s a Business Plan? A business plan is simply a list of answers to questions that people might have about your home business. You will not get outside funding without one, because the people giving you the funding want to know that you have thought your venture through completely. A business plan says: I've considered this from every angle, and I am ready to get going.
Your business plan should include: a description of your service. Just what is it that you plan to do?
Tell them which industry you're going to be in, and why you've chosen it.
Who are your customers? Once you know what your business will do, the next thing you need to know is whom you are going to be doing it for.
What makes your business different? You need to explain what makes your business different from other businesses in your market. How do you plan to do to make the business succeed?
List your expenses. Include start up expenses and any equipment that you need before you can get up and
running. Also include your daily expenses such as staff costs and supplies.

Getting advice when you start a home business, it can be easy to get confused. Chances are you don't know anyone else that has started a home business so where do you go for help.
First go online. The Internet is a great resource for people who have a home business. You can find articles and newsletters with information and advice. There are also many message boards, forums and blogs where you can read, ask questions and get advice from other home business owners.
Go to your local library. Talk to the librarian. Libraries contain all sorts of home business books and resources. Your librarian should be more than happy to help you do research.
Find a mentor. They are usually volunteers who have had great business success and will be glad to help start up new businesses. They often have years of experience and can be really helpful.
The SBA. The Small Business Administration provides a multitude of material on starting your own business.
Depending on where you live, you find local government agencies that will give you free help and advice. Check your listings for small business center in your area.
Your bank should have been the first place you went if you were thinking of starting a business. While they're no replacement for accountants, most banks will have a business advisor on staff to help you open a business account. They can be especially helpful with the technical and financial elements of starting your business.
Lawyers know all about starting a new business. It can be well worth paying for an hour of a lawyer’s time and just asking them every question you can think of. Look around you may even be able to get a free consultation.
Accountants also know all about business and can be less expensive alternative to lawyers. If you want your business to be profitable you should take the advice your accountant gives you and if you don't have one, you should get one.
Look for investors. There are people who back businesses for a living. If you think your business would be attractive to investors then you can try going to an investor with your idea. If they like it, they will often have a quick process set up to get your company up and running as soon as possible.
Visit your local universities. They are full of business students. They spend all their time learning about business, and many of them would just love to help get a real one off the ground. Business students can be a great source of free help and advice.
Remember whatever industry you're thinking of entering probably has some kind of trade association, society or union. You should join as soon as you can, and take advantage of all the resources that offer to people getting started in their industry.
There is an endless supply of help and advice out there. Just don't be afraid to ask!

Choosing a Name
Tell me have you gotten around to.... Choosing a Name for Your Business?
One of the most important things your business needs is a name. Your name will be the very first thing that almost all of your customers see.
You have to pick a name that says something about you and your business that people in your target market will remember easily.
A good basic idea is to use your last name followed by what you do. Like Walton's Feed and Supply or Anderson's Plumbing. You could also add the town where you live in to the name like Anderson's Little Rock Plumbing.
You can also leave out your name and simply become Little Rock Feed and Supply. This makes you sound like the first choice locally and will help target your local area.
If you are going to be dealing with the big companies you may want to consider a more corporate sounding name. Think of a word to describe your business then add the word "Consulting".
If you're going for a trendier market you might want a less formal name. You may want to name your business after an animal, and use that animal in your logo too. If you don't have
a big marketing budget, this is a good way to get started branding your business. For example take Geico.
They use that gecko lizard on everything. What do you remember when you think of car insurance?
Try a short name. Take two or three words that describe your business then shorten them to make it one word.
So you end up with IHOP (International House of Pancakes) this is a great way to express what you do without having long hard to remember name.
And when nothing else seems to fit make up a name. Just play with your words until you come up with a name that sounds right and the best part is it will be completely unique to your business.
Whatever you do make sure your business name is easy to pronounce, spell and remember Once you have a few names picked out make sure you check to make sure no one else is using them. You don't want to get your business started then find out that the name you want is taken.

Avoiding Home Business Scams
How you can avoid home business scams.
If you're thinking of working from home you have to realize that at least 99% of the offers out there are scams. Now really if is so easy to pay a few dollars and make thousands, wouldn't everyone be doing it by now? Here are the biggest scams out there, how to recognize them, and how to avoid them.
First where did you see the "Big Money" work from home offer? If you received it in your email, saw a poster tacked to a bulletin board or one of those little signs on the side of the road then I can almost guarantee you that it’s not a legitimate offer. If you saw an ad in a newspaper, a job magazine or on a job website, then it’s more likely to be legitimate but not always. Remember always check out any offer, and assume it’s a scam until you have proof it's not.
Envelope Stuffing is one of the most established work from home scams. The way it works is once you pay your money and sign up to work from home, you are sent a set of envelopes and ads just like the one you responded to.
Then you stuff your envelopes and pay to send them out. You could make some money if someone responds to your ad but the chances are slim. Don't waste your money on this one.
Home assemblers wanted. Charging for supplies is hard to pin down to any one scam it’s the way almost all work at home scams work. First you will be asked invest in the materials needed to do the work and then you will be sent very cheap materials that aren't worth anything like what you paid for them. Once the product is assembled you'll find that there’s no one who will buy it.
Quick tip: If anyone asks for money up front run away fast. A real company should be willing to deduct any
‘fees’ from your first paycheck. If they won't do that for you, then that’s because they don't ever plan to pay you.
A variation on the scam common with crafts is that you might be asked to work at home making clothes, ornaments or toys. Everything seems legitimate you've got the materials without paying out any money, and you're doing the work.
Unfortunately for you, when you send the work back, the company will tell you that it didn't meet their ‘quality standards’, and will refuse to pay you. Never do craft work from home unless you're selling the items yourself.
Now let’s discuss home typing and medical billing scams. There are lots of work from home scams that will lead you to believe that they have more work than they can handle so they need people to work from home.
What will happen? You will be told that you would be typing documents, or entering medical bills into a computer. These scams have one thing in common. They say all you need is your computer and then all you have to do is buy their special software to do the job. This software might appear to be from a completely unrelated company, but don't be fooled. The whole reason the work from home ad was there to begin with was a sneaky way to sell you their software.
I hope this helps you see running a home business that involves you working for one company is a bad idea.
You don't know whom you're dealing with. Remember even with entirely legal work at home offers that does pay you for your work, you still won't make near as much money as you can with your very own home business.

Do You Need a License?
Did you know that there are many types of businesses that are strictly regulated and controlled by the government?
I once knew a lady whose great idea was to make croutons from her house. Needless to say, that didn't last long when the inspector heard about it.
If you think you've got an idea that’s going to make you big money, there might be a reason why everyone else isn't doing it and that reason could be related to the law.
As I mentioned above if you are going to sell food, you will need to license and register for hygiene and safety inspections. For many reasons most local government agencies are especially strict if you plan to handle food especially raw meat. Food licenses aren't too hard to get provided you are willing to have your kitchen and products inspected at regular intervals An in home daycare will need a license. There are all sorts of courses to take and regular inspections to go through. If you ever wonder why there’s a shortage of in home childcare providers it’s because it’s so hard to keep up with the rules and make a profit.
Gambling is almost always strictly regulated. It might be fine to gamble privately with your friends depending on where you live, but as soon as you start running it as a business you are on shaky ground.
You'll also find that most places have laws against lotteries. Applying for a license to turn your home into a gambling establishment is pretty sure to fail.
You will need a license if you plan to serve alcohol. Getting an alcohol license for your home, unless it's for some kind of special event and the drinking is just incidental is pretty much out of the question.
Alcohol licenses are subject to appeals from people who live near you. So unless your whole neighborhood is ok with it you may have trouble.
Anything medical will probably need a license. When I say medical, I mean doctors, dentists, opticians, and even vets. You might think it is a great idea to turn your home into an animal hospital, but you need to be qualified and licensed. Of course, if you've previously been a doctor, dentist, or whatever, then you shouldn't have too much trouble getting licensed to do the same thing from home.
This list just covers some of the most common businesses that need licensing. The best idea is to check your local laws and make sure your home business is properly licensed.

You’re starting a home business. Before you go any further and start investing your time and cash it's a good idea to test things out on a small scale.
Here are some things you can do.
No matter weather you plan to sell physical things, or your starting a website build a prototype. A prototype is a small version of your product that you build quickly to prove your idea is feasible. Show your prototype to a few people to see what they think. If you get a good response then you know you have a winner.
If you are providing a product or service why not test it out on a few customers. Give them a free try or a big discount to make sure that everything runs smoothly and the customers are satisfied and happy with your product.
And don't forget to do some kind of survey to find out exactly what your customer thinks of your service. You could hand it to the customer, include it with your product, or call them up and say that you are just calling to make sure everything is went well.
So what ever you are planning remember it's a good idea to test it out on a small scale before you hit the big time. Trying it out gives you the opportunity to build confidence in yourself and your business without making big costly mistakes.

It's true you just can't please all of the people all of the time, even if you run yourself into the ground trying. There will always be someone who is not happy with what you have done. So what can you do about it?
First of all don't be rude or dismissive. The customer's complaint might seem uncalled for or insulting but that doesn't mean that you can respond nicely. You must treat every customer complaint seriously and with respect for their feelings.
Remember that every unhappy customer will talk about their experience to as many 20 people. Those people are
your potential customers and they will never hear your side of the story. Going the extra mile to keep unhappy customers happy is always a good idea to prevent them from damaging your business.
What else can you do?
If they ask for a refund or replacement product give it to they promptly. Make sure that you convey your apologies for their time and trouble. Go the extra mile and show them that
their business is important to you.
People will really appreciate your effort if you take the time to apologize. Simply say that you're sorry things weren't to their satisfaction and you appreciate them taking the time to tell you so that you can improve your product or service. You want them to walk away feeling good about your business.
Having people know that you respond well to complaints is some of the best marketing you can get. Knowing that you treat customers well is a great way to insure they come back and do business with you again. A large amount of the time, when a customer complains about something, it will be due to some kind of problem with your supplier or some other mishap that you have no control over at the time. The customer doesn't know this, but you do and you need to fix it so it doesn't happen again.
Remember good customer service is the life blood of your business so make sure you handle it with care and consideration.

They feel like they gave up their financial stability and start to regret the decision.
If this starts to happen to you the best thing you can do is step back and remember the reasons that you started you business. Go over your business plans and reaffirm your ability to make your business a success.
Remember you knew this was going to be hard on you financially when you started so it's no excuse to call it quits.
One thing you can do is keep good records. Not knowing exactly what your financial situation is can be the most stressful part of running your own home business. I know you might think you don't want to know, but when you leave it to your imagination that is when things really start to get out of control.
If you know exactly where you stand you will feel more control over the situation. The simplest way to keep records for yourself is to use an accounting program like QuickBooks or even just a simple spreadsheet.
Don't give in to the stress. When you feel stressed out your first thought may be to hide under the covers and ignore whatever it is that is stressing you out. By hiding you will only make your situation worse. By facing it head on you will feel stronger and more competent to make your business a success.
When you run a home business, you might have to make a few sacrifices or sell a few things to make it through the tough times, but I guarantee you that you will find it is the most rewarding adventure of your life if you stick it out and make it a success.

Remember when you start interviewing that you are looking for someone to not only make your life easier, you also want someone capable of increasing your bottom line. Ask some basic questions so that you can get a feel for their personalities. You want to work with someone who is personable, competent and reliable. Start out simple.
- Tell me about yourself? The response to this simple question will give you a good idea about their
personality what they think is important, as well as some insight to their ability .
- Why should I hire you? This will give you a good idea of how confident they are in their ability to do the job. Have them explain how they will meet your job requirements.
- Why did you leave your last job? This will give you a feel for how they view their past employers. This will also help you spot potential problems. If they use excuses or complaints then you may want to put them at the bottom of your pile.
As an employer you have the right to ask any questions that will help you find the right person for the job.
Just remember by law, you can't ask as anything that could be thought of as discrimination, including questions related to age, race, religion, nationality, marital status, medical history or disability.
One last note. When you hire people, you need to remember that you have to pay taxes. You will more than likely have to pay their income taxes as well as medical insurance taxes. Make sure you check your local tax laws. Or better yet check with an accountant who can help you.

First let's talk about advisors. You may not realize that there are different types of advisors. For instance you may need a financial advisor if you are trying to manage a lot of debt. They can help you structure your business so that it will easily pay your business debts as well as paying your salary.
There are also business advisors. They can help you if there is anything you are unsure about when it comes to running your business. Than can be more affordable and extremely helpful if you run into trouble. Having good advisors can take a lot of weight off your shoulders.
When you own a business the day may come when you will need a lawyer to help you with licenses, permits, regulations, contacts, or employment. You need to get one straight away if someone violates your trademark, copyright or patent, or someone threatens to take legal action against you for some reason. It's a good idea to have a lawyer on your side. Whenever you are dealing with the law you really shouldn't try to go it alone.
Accountants are a necessity for saving on your taxes. Accountants know the tax laws inside and out.
They will be able to point out all the savings you might be entitled to. A good accountant who will keep in contact with you. They will remind you of tax deadlines and changes in the law.
Advertising your business can be confusing and costly if you don't know what your doing. If you aren't sure how run your advertising campaign you may want to check into an advertising agencies. A good one can create professional looking ad and place it in ways that will produce results. Look for one that specializes in home businesses, and will let you start with a small budget.

Starting your business with credit cards or lines of credit. This can be dangerous territory. Trademarks and Copyrights
So you've put all this work into your business: you've got a name, you've made some marketing materials,
even written some things for your customers. If you don't want your competitors to be able to take what
you've done and exploit it, though, you're going to need to take some steps to protect yourself.
What's in a Name?
Your name is one of the most important assets your business has -- it's how your customers identify you.
Knowing your name is the first step to trusting you and recommending you to others. But what can you do if
you're afraid that someone else might start using your name, or simply start another company with a similar enough name to confuse people?
The answer is that you can register a trademark. A trademark is a word or logo that distinguishes one thing from another, and you have the right to register any names or logos your business uses, in order to stop other people from using them. Coca-Cola, for example, is a trademark of the Coca-Cola Company -- if I start selling my own drink and calling it 'Coca-Cola', or even something like 'Cocoa-Cooler', then they have grounds to sue me.
Making Your Mark.
You can trademark both your business' name as well as the names of any products you sell. The only condition is that they can't be too similar to names that someone has already trademarked, and you can't usually trademark words that are in common use.
It costs a few hundred dollars to register a trademark, and you can do it through the patent office. It can be a waste of money to trademark too many words, so you should only bother with it if you think one of your names could be threatened by competitors.
Once you get your trademark, it's yours -- you can do whatever you want with it, including giving others permission to use it or selling it to them. Remember, though, that your trademark usually only applies in the country where you registered it -- you will not usually be protected from competition where foreign businesses are using your trademark. Also, your right to use the trademark will only last for a set number of years (usually a decade from the date of registration). After this time, you will have to pay again to
renew it.
Don't Copy Me.
Copyrights are similar to trademarks in terms of the kind of protection they offer, but different in how they work. In almost all countries, ownership of copyright is automatic, and costs nothing. The moment you write (or draw, or record) something, you own the copyright on it, and can take action against anyone who makes a copy of it without your permission. This article you're reading right now, for example, has the automatic copyright. If you decided to copy it without permission and put it on your own website, then that would be illegal. Not that you would do such a thing, of course.
It is possible to own the copyright on almost anything that exists but isn't physical: music, graphics, writing, computer programs, and so on. It does not, however, cover physical things (that's patents), nor does it cover names (that's trademarks). A copyright lasts longer than a trademark: typically it lasts until you die, and then a set number of years
after that, depending on your country and the kind of thing that was copyrighted. After the end of this time, the work becomes 'public domain', free for anyone to use.
Of course, copyright is a right, not something that you absolutely must go along with. If you want to give people permission to freely use and redistribute something you've made, then you have the legal right to do this. You can even give up your copyright on a piece of work altogether, simply by writing on it that you no longer want to own the copyright.
Since you're in business, though, the chances are that you'll want more protection for your materials, not less. Look into registering your copyright at the patent office, as doing this will give you an even stronger case if you ever need to use it.

Don't Rush to Bankruptcy
What will you do if your business gets in to trouble?
When your debts start to stack up and you can't pay the bills. Your advertising budget is blown, and your expenditures are twice as much as your profits. What do you do? Well, this is the point when many people will throw in the towel. Are you one of them? I hope not because there is always a way to make it. You just have to find it.
There will always be ways to raise money for your business. Did you know that the average person has thousands of dollars worth of random stuff just lying around in their home? In other words, you can always find the money if you're really determined and not afraid of losing everything.
The only thing you should really try to protect is your house and some money for basic food -- everything else is expendable. Never forget that the worst thing that can really happen to you is that you'll have to go out and get a job. Would that really be so tragic?
Fear is your enemy in business. You cannot give in to your fear and give up before you've given it your all -- the real reason why so many home and small businesses fail is that their owners chicken out and run away at the first sign of trouble.
The Captain Goes Down with His Ship.
When the chips are down, the only thing to do is to stake your personal success on the success of your business. After all, what's the point in bailing out before you have to? You're guaranteed to lose money that way.

If your creditors are at the point of knocking on your door, you should try to get a voluntary agreement with them before you even consider declaring bankruptcy. This is when you negotiate your debts down to a lower level using the threat of bankruptcy, and your creditors sign an agreement with you to say that they will leave you alone once you've paid that money.
The Absolute Last Resort.
I simply cannot get across to you how much you should not consider bankruptcy as a viable option, ever, until you are absolutely forced into it. Think of it as being like suicide: the absolute last resort. Would you commit suicide because your business was going badly? I hope you answered no -- which means that you shouldn't consider bankruptcy either.
Having had a bankrupt company stays with you for a long time in everything you do: your credit rating, your employment history, and even just in the way you think of yourself day-to-day. It's better to have everything wrestled from your hands than to give it up voluntarily -- otherwise you'll always be tortured by wondering what would have happened if you'd kept going just a little longer.

Do You Have Marketing Plan?
Marketing is the real back bone of your business. Don't you think that it is important enough to need a plan,completely separate from your basic business plan? After all with out a plan how will you know where you are going. Let's go over the basic information that your marketing plan should include.
First you need a marketing strategy and a budget. It is a good idea to get the basics of your marketing plan written down, so that you can see exactly what you are aiming for. Start the process by making lists.
List of all the advertising you plan to do. Include websites, newspapers, radio, flyers, the yellow pages ect.
For each form of advertising you should assign an estimated cost. Determine how many customers you expect to reach. This will allow you to work out your cost of per customer, which is how much of you budget you need to spend on advertising to bring in one customer.
Next make a list all of the pricing policies you plan to have, as well as any special offers that you think will be good. Don't worry you can make price changes and new offers later, The idea here is to have some basic long term plans.
Another good idea is to have a list of other businesses in your area that could be considered to be competitors. You need to know who you are up against and a good plan to differentiate yourself from them.
This is just a basic outline for starting your businesses plan. Remember, when in doubt seek out help. Do a quick search for sample marketing plans online or visit your local library for more information.

Do you get everything in writing?
When you're dealing with customers, sometimes things can go wrong. It might be your fault, it might be their fault or it might be one big mix up, but if you didn't get everything in writing it will be one big mess.
Contracts are one of the most important parts of doing business, even you think they are a big pain, the pain will be worse with out them.
Every business needs contracts. They can be as simple as a sales receipt, a short hand written note or as complicated as lengthy legal document. What ever you do don't ever make a deal without one.
Without a contract, you leave yourself and your business vulnerable. Someone could claim that the terms they agreed with you were different to what you say they were, or that they never agreed to or signed for anything at all. Essentially, contracts give you the ability to prove that the transaction or agreement was made.
A contract gives you a sound legal base for your business, and some guarantee that you're going to get paid for your work without you having to ask the customer for payment in advance. In the event of a dispute, the contract lays down what the agreement was so that you can point to it and say what was agreed. If you ever end up having to go to court the contract is what the judge's decision will be based on.
According to the law there is a big distinction between a verbal contract and a written one. A verbal contract is binding in theory, but it can be very hard to prove. A written contract is solid proof that what you are saying true. A written contract is almost impossible to dispute.
It is all to easy to think things like, contracts are expensive, I can't afford to waste my money, my customers are great, I won't have a problems with them, I do just fine with out them, I don't need the hassle, why bother.
Remember that old phrase " it only takes one bad apple, to ruin the whole bunch". Well it will only take one unhappy customer to take down your business.
When you are tempted to forgo the contract keep in mind that written contracts don't need to be complicated or formal. A simple letter stating the terms of your agreement, preferably signed by all parties involved is enough to qualify as a written contract. Another simple option is purchase pre-made forms from your local office supply store or software that will help you design your own forms.
If you are dealing in high dollar amounts it could be worth the time and trouble of having a lawyer write a formal contract, or at least of doing it yourself and getting a lawyer to look it over. Formal contracts will give you more protection.
Taking the time to draw up a contract is on of the most important things you can do to protect yourself and your business.

Goal in Five Minutes a Day
Would you like to learn an absolutely free method for reaching your next goal in only five minutes a day?
You don't need to buy anything, you don't need to own anything, you don't need to go anywhere and you don't
need to have any previous experience to make this method work for you.
You already have everything you need. Just one brain, that's all you need. Let me show you one way to program your mind so that your goals come to you effortlessly.
Here is a simple technique which always works for me.
STEP ONE: THE MAGIC OF THINKING SMALL
First, pick a goal that is *just* beyond your comfort level. Many motivational teachers will urge you to shoot for the stars, think incredibly big, and go for goals which are ten times as large as anything you've ever accomplished. This may work well for people who are already confident in their power to manifest, but for the beginner, or for the person who has not had much success using mind power, the idea of thinking outrageously big is a disaster.
For example, if you haven't had a date in three years you don't want to visualize yourself scoring with bunnies at the Playboy mansion. In theory all goals are definitely achievable, but in your reality you probably don't really believe it's possible, so it won't happen. Instead, pick a goal which is reasonable and can be accomplished within a few months. In this example, you might want to have just one date in the
next three months. Not nearly as thrilling of a goal, but a fantastic step towards a better life. Or you probably want more money in your life. Instead of visualizing yourself suddenly earning $250,000 a year, start with a goal of increasing your wage or your sales by 10 per cent. Again, not exactly thrilling, but the point is you start small and build upon your success, instead of going for the home run and missing every time.
You see, after you reach that first goal you will have some confidence, and you can use that confidence to step up to the next goal, slowly but surely building a better life in the process.
STEP TWO: CREATE A DECLARATION OF INTENT
Once a day, every morning, write down the goal you've picked. Whatever it is you want to experience, just write it down once. A good format to use is a short sentence which begins with "I am now attracting...",
"I am now creating...", "I will now..." or "I now intend...
For example:
"I AM NOW ATTRACTING A LOVING RELATIONSHIP INTO MY LIFE."
"I WILL NOW SELL 10 PER CENT MORE PRODUCTS EACH MONTH."
"I AM NOW CREATING HIGHER SELF-ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE."
"I NOW INTEND TO EAT THOUGHTFULLY AND BEGIN LOSING WEIGHT."
Of course, create your own wording for your own goal. The vitally important thing is that when you say it your emotional state agrees with the statement. For example, the reason an affirmation such as "I am now exercising every day" doesn't work is because if you are not exercising every day you immediately feel it when you say it. If you say "I am now with my ideal partner" you will immediately feel the lie even before you finish saying it.
However, a statement which begins "I am now attracting..." or "I now intend..." is true (at least while you are saying it) and holds no contradiction in your emotions. Of course, this is different for everyone, so find a wording that works for you.
STEP THREE: CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS
After writing down your goal, mentally place yourself in the future, to a day where your goal has been accomplished, and *feel* the happiness and excitement you would be feeling, knowing that you have accomplished your goal.
Just pretend it is, for example, three months from today, and on that day you have reached your goal. Let's say that this future day is the day you start the new job you have been working towards, or on that day you weigh yourself and you are 10 pounds lighter, or on that day you leave for the vacation you've been dreaming about.
Whatever it is, just move forward in your mind to that day, and *PRETEND* that your goal has been reached, and *FEEL* the emotions which you would feel if you had actually reached your goal. Feel the happiness, feel the success, feel the proud accomplishment of knowing that you can use your own inner power to change your life. Imagine what next goal you'll now go for since you've reached this first one. Plan a celebration for yourself, and imagine how great you will feel when you celebrate your accomplishment.
Just generate that positive emotion for a minute or two, and just bask in it for a few moments.
STEP FOUR: ASK FOR HELP FROM YOUR FUTURE SELF
Now, while you are enjoying that feeling, looking back to today from that future moment, ask yourself what single action you can take, today, to bring your goal to you faster.
The future you which has accomplished your goal knows what steps need to be taken. From this vantage point,
you can ask yourself what is the next most practical action you can take.
When you get the answer, write it down, and take that action at some point during the day. Taking action, no matter how small, is the fastest and surest way of convincing your subconscious mind that you are serious, and will do wonders for the quick manifestation of your goals.
STEP FIVE: CHOOSE THE SAME THING EVERY DAY
Do this daily, until you are done. Work on only one goal at a time, and don't change goals unless you decide you no longer want the one you started working on. If you no longer want the goal, choose a new one and start again. But if you do want your original, don't stop until you have it.
WARNING: LACK OF PERSISTENCE IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY PEOPLE DO NOT REACH THEIR GOALS.
If you give up before you reach your goal, you obviously don't want it very much, do you? Pick a goal that you cannot live without, and start again...
This technique only takes about 5 or 10 minutes with your morning coffee and works flawlessly. *If* you do it.

A Disaster Plan
Disaster plans, do you have one?
I don't mean to be a downer but, any time you start a business, you are taking the risk that the business
might fail. What you may not have considered when you started out was along with your business plan you need
a disaster plan. Having a plan in place will help you shield yourself from risk and help you make sure that you can keep your business going even on the brink of disaster.
You need to have a plan for what you're going to do if your business looks like it is going to go under. Are you going to borrow money, raise prices, cut back or fire people. Are you willing to sell your possessions or mortgage your house, ? What will you do? This is where your disaster plan comes into play.
Just like a business plan your disaster plan will layout a list of options that you can refer to if your business runs into trouble. In your disaster plan include a list of the things that you will or will not do before you close your doors on your business.
A good disaster plan will depend a lot on how much risk you're willing to take on yourself. If you are sensible and conservative then you will go as far as you can to avoid selling or borrowing against any of your own assets to keep your business open.
If you don't lean to the conservative side and are willing to take more of a risk, then you may consider getting a loan against your car or maybe even your house. Just be prepared to lose it all if you can't recover from whatever business disaster you may encounter.
A good disaster plan also includes a recovery plan. Once you have decided what you will do to handle a business disaster you need to decide how you will recover. When writing your disaster plan consider adding these things to your list. What will you do if you keep your doors open? How will you rebuild? What will you do if you decide to go out of business? Start another business? Go back into the job market? What will you do next?
How you handle a business disaster is completely up to you. That is where having a good disaster plan comes into play. You have to decide are you going to cut your losses and walk away or dig in your heals and risk it all to make your business a huge success.

Remember all the reasons you decided to quit your job and work from home? I would bet since you are running your business from home that you have a computer with Internet access. Am I right? One thing you can do is get online. Finding friends on forums or message boards can be good substitute for the lost interaction you are experiencing. More than that, it can offer you a good outlet for your frustrations and problems.
Many of the people you will be talking to are going through or have gone through the same thing themselves, and will be more than happy to offer support and advice. Just keep in mind that interaction is good but don't let interrupt your work. Set limits, give yourself a certain amount of time each day to talk and don't go over it.
Consider turning your loneliness into an advantage. Get to know your customers. By getting to know them on a
more personal level it can be rewarding to you and your business. The customers that will be the most loyal
to you are the ones that know you and trust you.
Join the local Chamber of Congress or another similar group or foundation in you area. If you look, you might be surprised at how many things are out there that you can join. Don't be shy. Become a member and you could find some new friends, as well as some good business contacts.

Pricing your products or services appropriately is a challenging part of any home business. You know what
you have and what you can do, but do you know how much you should be charging, without putting yourself out of business? Consider these few ideas when you are picking your price points.
First find out what the competition is charging. If they are selling a similar product or service do some snooping, make some calls, find out what they offer and how much it costs. Now compare their prices with your own. How do they measure up.
Keep in mind that just because someone else is selling for less doesn't mean you should lower your prices.
It is not always a good thing to be the cheapest out there. You might be surprised to know that you can take away a competitor's business by increasing your value and charging a higher price. One of the biggest secrets of pricing is that people assume a higher price means better quality and more value.
Here is a simple formula you can follow to help when choosing your price points. First determine your costs per item or service. Include any materials that you use like packaging, advertising, legal fees ect. Once you are done, you should have a rough estimate of how much each product you offer costs.
Next figure in a charge for your time and labor. Do this by adding the hours it takes you to complete the task, then decide what your hourly wage will be. It's up to you how much you will pay yourself. When in doubt start with minimum wage then gradually increase your wage to raise the price of the product. If you have a problem with this just think about what you might pay an employee to do the same job for you.
Now that you have added the cost and time, you need to add in a profit margin. This is typically be about 30 to 50 percent of the price you've come up with so far. You are all done. You should have the perfect price point to charge for your product or service. If you are unsure do some testing. Try selling at a slightly higher or lower price to see which sells better. Keep in mind that most often it is easier to lower prices than to raise them depending on what business you are in.

First we will discuss print ads in newspapers and magazines. There are two types of advertising in newspapers and magazines. The basic classified ad and the display ad. Classifieds are the small ads in the back of the publication. Display ads can be any size from a small two inches to a full page spread, depending on your budget.
Before you start placing ads make sure you do your research. You want to place your ads where you will get the best response. Once you have found a newspaper or magazine that you want to place an ad in call its advertising department and ask for a rate card. Keep in mind that advertising in the print media can be very expensive, so brace yourself. Make sure before you place you ad that you will have a good chance of making a return on your investment.
Another tip: ask if they have any unsold inventory. A lot of time they will have blocks of unsold ad space that you can pick up for a bargain price. These may not be the spots you were looking at but if you can get a great deal you can make it work you your advantage.
Don't forget billboards. They are the most overlooked form of print media, but they can be very effective with the right offer. What does your customer want?
Do you ever wonder what your customers want? Most business owners ask themselves that question daily. I know I do and I bet you do too.
I was watching one of my favorite marketers speak recently
and he said something that struck a chord with me and got
me thinking. He said "people want magic bullets".
They want the answer to their problems. A quick fix for their
woes. A simple solution that will make their world a better
place and they want it now!
That phrase made me ask, what magic bullets do my prospects want and do I have them?
How can I turn my products into the magic bullets that my
prospects can't live with out?
Side note: The best way to find out what your prospects want
is to survey them but, that is a whole other article.
Now, asking these questions won't help you get inside your
prospects mind but, it will get you in the right mind set.
Think about it. When you have a problem, you want a
solution right? You don't want to wait. Do you? You want a
quick fix and you want it now. You want a magic bullet. Guess
what so does your prospect!
Have you ever watched an infomercial and felt every button
they pushed. Felt like what they were selling was the answer
to all your problems? You just want to rip out your credit
card and say take my money! You can't wait until you can
get your hands on that magic bullet.
We all have and it's the magic bullets that get you every time.
For instance let's say your target market is acne sufferers.
If you have ever had acne you can identify with the pain and

On Line Articles
Online articles are different from print articles in many important respects. They need to be keyword optimized to be found by more readers, for example. They need to be shorter, to fit the space requirements and short attention spans of the internet world. They need to not only satisfy the reader, but to get the reader to click through to the web sites they are written to promote.
There are "rules," then, that you need to follow to maximize the effectiveness of your online articles. Break them, and you reduce the odds of turning your articles into streams of traffic and income. But not always. Here are some instances when breaking the rules is the smart thing to do.
Online Articles - Breaking The Rules
The Rule: 3 to 7 words in the title.
Short titles format better, and are often "punchier." That is, they grab attention better. The fact that you are reading this article tells us that an eleven-word title can also grab attention. A title should have a decent keyword in it, indicate what the article is about, and be catchy. If it takes more than seven words to do this effectively, break the rule! Shorter words may help if you have ten of them, though.
The Rule: Primary keyword in the title.
This makes it easier for people to find the article in the search engines. When should you break this rule? When you have already targeted the primary keywords for a topic in other articles, and you have more to write. In other words, if you have already written articles using the keywords "skydiving," and "skydiving safety," and any other good related keywords, you can go for a purely "catchy" title on the next article.
"My Parachute Didn't Open" may not contain good keywords, but it will certainly catch the attention of anyone browsing the directories where you have posted the article. This can mean additional traffic to your web site, in addition to that which comes from your optimized articles.
The Rule: Keyword in the "anchor text."
The idea here is to link to your site using keywords you want to optimize the site for. This is generally a good idea, but there are two reasons to break this rule. First, if you don't have the full URL (starting with http://) of the site there, it is likely that some publishers will screw up your link. An article without a link to your web site won't help you much. Second, if the keyword is already in the URL, you are all set. For example, 999ideas.com is already optimizing for "ideas" just by making a link of the URL.
The Rule: Short articles.
Short articles (300 to 800 words) are more likely to be published by others. They are also more suited to the short attention spans online. If your article really needs 1300 words to reasonably cover the topic - break the rule! Know that it will be less likely to be published on other sites, but it will be there for readers in the article directories that you submit it to - at least those that allow longer articles.
Another way to approach this problem, is to split the article into two parts. Post the first part in directories, noting that the article continues on your web site (link to that page in the resource box). This will almost guarantee that it won't be published much, but on the other hand, if it a good article, finishing it is a very compelling reason for readers to click through to your web site.
There are other article-writing rules that can be profitably broken at times. For example, you normally want an article to generate as much traffic as possible for your site, but the nature of that traffic matters
too, right? Perhaps getting less traffic, but traffic that is full of buyers, is better. You can see that knowing the reasons for the rules helps you know when to break them. The bottom line when writing online articles? Do what works. If it helps you get more income - break those rules.
RULE # 2 Don't Write Just For Readers
Online articles have to written in a way that gets the readers attention, holds it through the article, and gets the click through to your web site. Writing for the reader may be the most important part of online writing. However, it isn't the only important part.
Who else do you need to write for? If you want your articles to go beyond the directories in which you post them, you have to write for newsletter and web site owners - potential publishers of your articles. Ideally, your online articles should spread around the internet, creating more and more incoming links for your website. Each of these links is a potential stream of income.
For example, when I wrote an article for my web site, The Secret Information Site .com, I posted it in several directories. I didn't get much traffic directly from the directories, but soon a decent web site took and published the article in their newsletter and on the site. Within weeks, they had generated dozens of sales of my ebook for me. This was almost a year ago, and I still get sales from there every week.
Writing Online Articles For Webmasters
Newsletter publishers and web site owners like an interesting article, the same as any readers. However, they have other concerns as well. They are running a business, so they want an article that helps generate income. Here are some of the specific things they look for.
1. Generally one link in your author's resource box should be enough for your purposes. More than that, and you are likely to scare away potential users of your article. Site owners don't want too many non-paying ways for visitors to leave their site. They get your article without direct cost, but they "pay" you for your article with that link, and three links my be too expensive. It is also bad form to put links in online articles now - keep them to the resource box.
2. For the sake of the publishers of your articles and the readers, articles should be informative or entertaining, but not a sales pitch. Selling should be limited to the "About The Author" box.
3. They are short. Long article mean slower loading times for the pages they are published on. There also has to be room for the publishers advertising, navigational links, and more. If you keep your articles between 300 and 800 words, they will be published more often.
4. They have simple HTML. Many publishers just copy articles from a directory without copying the HTML code. They know how to make the link active, but they may not want to recreate your highlighting, side bars and graphics. Use bold tags and italics, and not much else.
5. They are keyword optimized. The publisher should be able to recognize the primary keyword in the title, and see it in the first and last paragraphs of the article. Notice that "on line articles" is used in the title, and body of this article. A publisher hopes that your article will generate new search engine traffic to his site, so decent keyword optimization makes your article more likely to be chosen.
RULE 3 Write Articles For The Reader
Why do you write articles for distribution online? If it is just so you can be an "author," you can skip this article. If it is to generate traffic to your website, you need to be writing for the reader. Here are some ways to do that.
1. Write articles on topics that interest you. This may seem contrary to the idea of writing for the reader, but it isn't. It is safe to assume that you are not the only one interested in a given topic. Writing about your own interests keeps you motivated, and you'll usually do a better job. You also normally will have more knowledge to share in an area of interest than in an area you just chose because it is popular.
2. Write a title that catches the reader's attention. There are many ways to do this, and this is a topic worthy of it's own article. The short lesson? Use words like "how to," "easy ways to," ten ways to," "secrets," and "try this." Titles that are questions can be effective too.
3. Make your writing easy on the eyes. Don't have sentences that go on and on endlessly, with more words than are necessary to make the point and without enough commas to break them up into digestible parts, and with no good reason to be that long, and which easily could have been cut into two or more shorter, easier-to-read sentences that would have been more relaxing to read - in other words, avoid sentences like this one. Oh, and have concise paragraphs of two to six sentences.
4. You should, of course, try to write articles that are truly useful, interesting or entertaining. If you can do all three in one article, that's great. At the very least, though, try to include something in your article that will be new to the average reader. Second best is describing things they already know, but in new ways. You often have to cover the same points as similar articles, but do more than that as well.
5. Keep the language simple. After scrutinizing many articles, I consider the evidence to be incontrovertible that pretentiousness in the elucidation of your information makes the loss of the reader ineluctable. In other words, use too many big words and you'll scare away many readers. You can say what you like using simple words like the ones in this sentence. No reader will stop reading a good article because the language is too simple.
6. Write a resource box that make it easy for the reader to see where he can go for more information. A list of your dozen degrees and awards will not impress him or be helpful. Say one or two things about yourself, then have a clear link, and a description of what the reader will find at your web site.
This is a short lesson on how to write articles for readers. You should also use the right keywords, so readers can find the article, and write an article description that makes them want to read it. If you also
want your articles used by others, you have to write articles not only for readers, but for newsletter and web site owners. That, however, is a topic for another article.
Highest Paying Google AdSense Keywords
A friend sent me a list of supposedly highest paying keywords for contextual advertising. I wonder is this true or whether this is just a gimmick to make other people believe so... and me supporting the hype by reproducing it here? For your amusement the partial list is at the end of this article. (and don't be surprised if google actually serves you those ads matching those keywords.)
Assuming that whoever produced this list is correct, by looking at the data one can tell that NY and Chicago lawyers are willing to pay a lot of money to get a potential customer via on line ads.
But can someone explain why mesothelioma is in the top rank? Is it because people are afraid to get it? Or is it because many people have it already?
Google doesn't allow porn ads, otherwise we would have been drowning in nasty ads, which probably would have had the highest click rate ever.

RULE 4 The Article Submission
Is fast article submission really important? For some of us it is. It may not be if you are just going to submit an article or two and leave it at that. However, if you hope to use articles as a regular part of your marketing plan for your website, it becomes very important.
The first time I wrote an article to promote one of my web sites, it took me hours just to write it. Then the article submission process took another hour - for just one article directory. I was slow! Now, most articles take me less than an hour to write. I submit an article almost every morning to a dozen directories, and this takes me just fifteen minutes.
Now, does speed matter that much? Well, in the last twelve months, I have submitted 150 articles to directories (don't worry - you don't need to write this much to effectively promote your sites). Suppose I took twelve minutes for each directory submission, instead of the 75 seconds it actually takes me. That would be 212.5 hours extra in the last year, or 8.5 of my 15-hour work weeks!
Efficient Article Submission
It isn't about rushing or moving fast. You simply need a simple process or system for anything that you repeatedly do. A simple process makes article submission more relaxing, not less so.
Compose your articles in Windows Notepad files or any simple word processing program. Create a systematic way to format everything - one that works for you - and then stick with it.
Once I have written an article, I copy and paste it into the file again. Then I add bold tags or italics or heading tags as necessary to the first version. This way I have a version ready for the directories that accept HTML and those that don't. Each article also has a two sentence description and a list of keywords, ready to copy and paste into the submission forms.
I have a numbered list of directories I submit to, with the URL of the submission page ready to be copied and pasted into the browser to speed things along. I write the article titles on a list. As I submit them I jot down the number of the article directory. Sometimes directories have technical problems for a day or a month. With my simple tracking list, I can go back later to submit the article to those that were missed.
When submitting articles, you have to open and close (expand and minimize) files repeatedly as you fill in the submission form. To save time on forms that require my name, I copy the title and name together, paste it into the "title" box on the form, then cut the name and paste it into the appropriate box. This will make more sense once you try it - it means opening and close the file one less time.
I copy and paste the article description and the keywords into the form, if that article directory requires these. I copy the article body along the resource box. After pasting the article into the form, I cut the resource box and paste it into the appropriate box. Again, this is to open and close the file one less time. Look for any little tricks that work for you to speed things up.
If you have an auto-fill feature on your browser, use it. When forms asking for email, name, or anything else are highlighted yellow, you can usually fill them in with these tools. At directories that require my name and email address, I just click my auto-fill button, and those fields are filled in for me. I use this tool dozens of times daily, saving me a lot of typing.
I also highly recommend getting a keyboard with "cut," "copy" and "paste" buttons. These are much faster than navigating up to "edit," finding "copy," then opening it again to use the "paste" function. This little feature has saved me twenty hours of work in the last year alone - well worth the small price.
There are more ways that I speed up the process, but there is no reason you have to do it the way I do. The important point is that you should be spending more time writing good articles than submitting them.

Amazing New Mind Power Secret
Almost all mind power books say that one has to visualize in order to get results. But for me, and I dare say many of my friends/readers, visualizing is extremely difficult: all I can summon up in my imagination is a vague picture, lacking vivid colour and depth, lasting for no more than a second or two. This left me very frustrated, and I was close to giving up mind power altogether when I hit upon the idea which I will explain to you in a moment. A friend of mine whose hobby was expensive hi-fi equipment had been saving
for a certain component costing just over $800. He had saved about $500 when, alas, he damaged his car. He was only insured for third party, fire and theft, so he had to foot the bill for the damage which left him with only $25.
I thought that this would be a good opportunity for testing my idea. He followed my instructions faithfully and within one month he had the component in his bedroom.
It happened that he won a competition in a magazine which gave a first prize of $1000 worth of hi-fi of your choice from a large hi-fi shop in London. This was the first time my friend, who frequently enters such competitions, had won anything.
The results from this first test made me very excited so I decided to try a second experiment with another friend of mine. He wanted a girlfriend, but he wouldn't settle for any girl - he wanted a particular girl.
For this reason it cost him a few pounds to have a photograph of her, which he took secretly, enlarged. This delayed the result of the experiment by a couple of weeks, but had he not been so particular it would have happened more quickly because any picture of a woman with similar features to what his ideal woman looked like would have brought results. He got his girl in five weeks. He did not have to try - she came to him.
Since these e xperiments with my friends I have enjoyed very satisfactory results from using the same idea for myself. I have always wanted to play the guitar and have tried many times, but with no success. In the past six months
I have progressed more than I ever thought possible; and can now even play solos and lead breaks.
I have also just ordered my first brand new car for delivery when the new registration comes out. It is costing over $7000 for which I don't need a loan: I can pay cash which I think is not bad as I have only just turned 21 years of age. I seem to be receiving money from all sorts of unexpected sources, and I believe it is all down to the mind power idea I am about to reveal to you.
The idea came to me after reading about the use of subliminal advertising in cinemas in the 1950s, I think it was. A frame of the film being shown would every so often contain the name of a brand of drink; but the name would not be perceived by the viewer's consciousness. It was however noted by the subconscious mind with the result that people would automatically seek out the brandname drink in question, having no idea that they had been influenced to do this by the film they saw! Eventually this form of advertising was made
illegal. I experienced what must have been a similar, if less subtle, technique when I saw a video of the film The Exorcist. Every so often a leering demonic face would appear for a split second or so and to this day, try as I might, I cannot forget it. I saw the film again the other day and it wasn't in it so I
think they must have stopped putting it in.
Now here is my mind power idea. I will use an example of money which is what everybody wants. If you want $1000 write this amount on a large sheet of paper. Write in big, clear print. Now stick this paper on the wall facing your bed. The next thing you need is a flashlight, preferably one with a straight forward on/off switch - not one of those where you have to press the button once for 'on' and again for `off`, this type is too slow. Next you need an alarm clock which you should set off at a time when you know you will be in deep sleep and when it will be pitch black in darkness.
Keep your flashlight within arm's reach of your bed and when the alarm clock goes off stop it and immediately grab the flashlight. Now looking towards where you stuck your sheet of paper flash the flashlight at it three times, allowing
one or two seconds between each time.
When this is done return to sleep and do not think further about the money you want.
If you desire a new car get a large picture of the car you want and write over it 'My car' and stick this on the wall. If you want a girl or boyfriend do as my friend did, or the other way I mentioned if you do not desire a particular person. There is no end to the objectives to which my idea can be applied: just write your desire on a sheet of paper or use a large picture of what you want and stick it to the wail. The instructions are the same no matter what the nature of your aim.
You should aim for just one thing at a time until your aim is accomplished. Then you can begin something else. Follow my instructions until your aim is accomplished. Then you can start something else. Follow my instructions every
night until you get a result. Results may take days, weeks, or even months in some cases, so please be patient.
It has worked for me.

It can work for you.
For those who find it hard to visualize this novel mind power method must be a fantastic idea. And nothing could be simpler. But for some of you there may be one distinct hindrance to this application: the use of an alarm clock in the middle of the night. This obviously presents a problem to anyone who sleeps in the same room as another.
The point of using an alarm clock is to arouse one from deepest slumber: that moment of awakening when the subconscious mind is particularly receptive to any impression it receives. But the subconscious is just as acutely receptive
when one awakens in the dead of night to answer nature's call. So at that time one can use the flashlight light on the wall, as suggested.
For the individual who sleeps the whole night without interruption, an alternative idea might be to look at the wall as soon as one awakes,close eyes for a second or two, look again; and then repeat twice. After the third time close eyes for a few minutes and do not think of what you looked at on th e wall. Then - providing you haven't fallen asleep. again! - get up and begin your day. For those unfamiliar with the word, the 'subconscious' is that part of our mind of which we are not aware. It is that hidden area of the mind whichcontrols our feelings and actions and indeed is far more powerful than our 'conscious' mind, that area of mind of which we are aware, and with which we think and reason.
Whilst many writers appear to disagree on the most effective way of exploiting the potential power of the mind, they all seem to agree on one central point: that it is the subconscious mind and not the conscious mind which holds the key to turning wishes into realities. How and why this is so is really not known although many have put forward explanations. But it suffices to say that if the subconscious can turn our dreams into realities then we should make use of its power and enjoy the benefits - and leave the explanations to the experts!
The subconscious, whilst being more powerful than its limited conscious counterpart, is not able to help you without your specific instruction . It has to be told that you want so-and-so. And the way to instruct it is through
simple words and images. The subconscious does not respond to, nor understand, long words or complicated instructions. This is why I regard this system both valuable and potent.
The uses to which this novel system can be applied are virtually limitless:
acquiring or improving skills ... receiving solutions to problems ... influencing other people ...self-improvement ... improving your memory ... reading faster ... the realization of almost any objective. The subconscious can do anything for
you!
The author doesn't provide specific instructions for each of the so many objectives which could be realized through his system; but it is obvious, based on what he has written, that if one seeks more confidence one would put on the wall something like 'I Am More Confident' or 'I Am Confident and Self- Assured'; or place on the wall a picture of someone who represents your idea of possessing great self-confidence. Your subconscious will then take it that you want to be like this person. This idea can be adapted, changed or altered to fit the needs of each individual reader. But the principle remains the same: Awake in the night or morning and glance at the script or picture on the wall. Nothing could be simpler and I am certain that at least some readers will derive great benefits.

Writing a Business Plan. You're ready to get your home business started in every way except one. You need money. Either in the form of a loan or from investors, but where do you start? One thing you will need before you can get capital for your business is a business plan.
What’s a Business Plan? A business plan is simply a list of answers to questions that people might have about your home business. You will not get outside funding without one, because the people giving you the funding want to know that you have thought your venture through completely. A business plan says: I've considered this from every angle, and I am ready to get going.
Your business plan should include: a description of your service. Just what is it that you plan to do?
Tell them which industry you're going to be in, and why you've chosen it.
Who are your customers? Once you know what your business will do, the next thing you need to know is whom you are going to be doing it for.
What makes your business different? You need to explain what makes your business different from other businesses in your market. How do you plan to do to make the business succeed?
List your expenses. Include start up expenses and any equipment that you need before you can get up and
running. Also include your daily expenses such as staff costs and supplies.

Accountants also know all about business and can be less expensive alternative to lawyers. If you want your business to be profitable you should take the advice your accountant gives you and if you don't have one, you should get one.
Look for investors. There are people who back businesses for a living. If you think your business would be attractive to investors then you can try going to an investor with your idea. If they like it, they will often have a quick process set up to get your company up and running as soon as possible.
Visit your local universities. They are full of business students. They spend all their time learning about business, and many of them would just love to help get a real one off the ground. Business students can be a great source of free help and advice.
Remember whatever industry you're thinking of entering probably has some kind of trade association, society or union. You should join as soon as you can, and take advantage of all the resources that offer to people getting started in their industry.

Choosing a Name
Tell me have you gotten around to.... Choosing a Name for Your Business?
One of the most important things your business needs is a name. Your name will be the very first thing that almost all of your customers see.
You have to pick a name that says something about you and your business that people in your target market will remember easily.
A good basic idea is to use your last name followed by what you do. Like Walton's Feed and Supply or Anderson's Plumbing. You could also add the town where you live in to the name like Anderson's Little Rock Plumbing.
You can also leave out your name and simply become Little Rock Feed and Supply. This makes you sound like the first choice locally and will help target your local area.
If you are going to be dealing with the big companies you may want to consider a more corporate sounding name. Think of a word to describe your business then add the word "Consulting".
If you're going for a trendier market you might want a less formal name. You may want to name your business after an animal, and use that animal in your logo too. If you don't have
a big marketing budget, this is a good way to get started branding your business. For example take Geico.
They use that gecko lizard on everything. What do you remember when you think of car insurance?
Try a short name. Take two or three words that describe your business then shorten them to make it one word.
So you end up with IHOP (International House of Pancakes) this is a great way to express what you do without having long hard to remember name.
And when nothing else seems to fit make up a name. Just play with your words until you come up with a name that sounds right and the best part is it will be completely unique to your business.
Whatever you do make sure your business name is easy to pronounce, spell and remember Once you have a few names picked out make sure you check to make sure no one else is using them. You don't want to get your business started then find out that the name you want is taken.

Avoiding Home Business Scams
How you can avoid home business scams.
If you're thinking of working from home you have to realize that at least 99% of the offers out there are scams. Now really if is so easy to pay a few dollars and make thousands, wouldn't everyone be doing it by now? Here are the biggest scams out there, how to recognize them, and how to avoid them.
First where did you see the "Big Money" work from home offer? If you received it in your email, saw a poster tacked to a bulletin board or one of those little signs on the side of the road then I can almost guarantee you that it’s not a legitimate offer. If you saw an ad in a newspaper, a job magazine or on a job website, then it’s more likely to be legitimate but not always. Remember always check out any offer, and assume it’s a scam until you have proof it's not.
Envelope Stuffing is one of the most established work from home scams. The way it works is once you pay your money and sign up to work from home, you are sent a set of envelopes and ads just like the one you responded to.
Then you stuff your envelopes and pay to send them out. You could make some money if someone responds to your ad but the chances are slim. Don't waste your money on this one.
Home assemblers wanted. Charging for supplies is hard to pin down to any one scam it’s the way almost all work at home scams work. First you will be asked invest in the materials needed to do the work and then you will be sent very cheap materials that aren't worth anything like what you paid for them. Once the product is assembled you'll find that there’s no one who will buy it.
Quick tip: If anyone asks for money up front run away fast. A real company should be willing to deduct any
‘fees’ from your first paycheck. If they won't do that for you, then that’s because they don't ever plan to pay you.
A variation on the scam common with crafts is that you might be asked to work at home making clothes, ornaments or toys. Everything seems legitimate you've got the materials without paying out any money, and you're doing the work.
Unfortunately for you, when you send the work back, the company will tell you that it didn't meet their ‘quality standards’, and will refuse to pay you. Never do craft work from home unless you're selling the items yourself.
Now let’s discuss home typing and medical billing scams. There are lots of work from home scams that will lead you to believe that they have more work than they can handle so they need people to work from home.
What will happen? You will be told that you would be typing documents, or entering medical bills into a computer. These scams have one thing in common. They say all you need is your computer and then all you have to do is buy their special software to do the job. This software might appear to be from a completely unrelated company, but don't be fooled. The whole reason the work from home ad was there to begin with was a sneaky way to sell you their software.
I hope this helps you see running a home business that involves you working for one company is a bad idea.
You don't know whom you're dealing with. Remember even with entirely legal work at home offers that does pay you for your work, you still won't make near as much money as you can with your very own home business.

Do You Need a License?
Did you know that there are many types of businesses that are strictly regulated and controlled by the government?
I once knew a lady whose great idea was to make croutons from her house. Needless to say, that didn't last long when the inspector heard about it.
If you think you've got an idea that’s going to make you big money, there might be a reason why everyone else isn't doing it and that reason could be related to the law.
As I mentioned above if you are going to sell food, you will need to license and register for hygiene and safety inspections. For many reasons most local government agencies are especially strict if you plan to handle food especially raw meat. Food licenses aren't too hard to get provided you are willing to have your kitchen and products inspected at regular intervals An in home daycare will need a license. There are all sorts of courses to take and regular inspections to go through. If you ever wonder why there’s a shortage of in home childcare providers it’s because it’s so hard to keep up with the rules and make a profit.
Gambling is almost always strictly regulated. It might be fine to gamble privately with your friends depending on where you live, but as soon as you start running it as a business you are on shaky ground.
You'll also find that most places have laws against lotteries. Applying for a license to turn your home into a gambling establishment is pretty sure to fail.
You will need a license if you plan to serve alcohol. Getting an alcohol license for your home, unless it's for some kind of special event and the drinking is just incidental is pretty much out of the question.
Alcohol licenses are subject to appeals from people who live near you. So unless your whole neighborhood is ok with it you may have trouble.
Anything medical will probably need a license. When I say medical, I mean doctors, dentists, opticians, and even vets. You might think it is a great idea to turn your home into an animal hospital, but you need to be qualified and licensed. Of course, if you've previously been a doctor, dentist, or whatever, then you shouldn't have too much trouble getting licensed to do the same thing from home.
This list just covers some of the most common businesses that need licensing. The best idea is to check your local laws and make sure your home business is properly licensed.

It's true you just can't please all of the people all of the time, even if you run yourself into the ground trying. There will always be someone who is not happy with what you have done. So what can you do about it?
First of all don't be rude or dismissive. The customer's complaint might seem uncalled for or insulting but that doesn't mean that you can respond nicely. You must treat every customer complaint seriously and with respect for their feelings.
Remember that every unhappy customer will talk about their experience to as many 20 people. Those people are
your potential customers and they will never hear your side of the story. Going the extra mile to keep unhappy customers happy is always a good idea to prevent them from damaging your business.
What else can you do?
If they ask for a refund or replacement product give it to they promptly. Make sure that you convey your apologies for their time and trouble. Go the extra mile and show them that
their business is important to you.
People will really appreciate your effort if you take the time to apologize. Simply say that you're sorry things weren't to their satisfaction and you appreciate them taking the time to tell you so that you can improve your product or service. You want them to walk away feeling good about your business.
Having people know that you respond well to complaints is some of the best marketing you can get. Knowing that you treat customers well is a great way to insure they come back and do business with you again. A large amount of the time, when a customer complains about something, it will be due to some kind of problem with your supplier or some other mishap that you have no control over at the time. Look online, check out a few agencies or tell some people you know. Once you have a few takers you can start interviewing. Remember when you start interviewing that you are looking for someone to not only make your life easier, you also want someone capable of increasing your bottom line. You don't want to spend a lot on your investment if you aren't going to get a good return.
Ask some basic questions so that you can get a feel for their personalities. You want to work with someone who is personable, competent and reliable. Start out simple.
- Tell me about yourself? The response to this simple question will give you a good idea about their
personality what they think is important, as well as some insight to their ability .
- Why should I hire you? This will give you a good idea of how confident they are in their ability to do the job. Have them explain how they will meet your job requirements.

There are also business advisors. They can help you if there is anything you are unsure about when it comes to running your business. Than can be more affordable and extremely helpful if you run into trouble. Having good advisors can take a lot of weight off your shoulders.
When you own a business the day may come when you will need a lawyer to help you with licenses, permits, regulations, contacts, or employment. You need to get one straight away if someone violates your trademark, copyright or patent, or someone threatens to take legal action against you for some reason. It's a good idea to have a lawyer on your side. Whenever you are dealing with the law you really shouldn't try to go it alone.
Accountants are a necessity for saving on your taxes. Accountants know the tax laws inside and out.
They will be able to point out all the savings you might be entitled to. A good accountant who will keep in contact with you. They will remind you of tax deadlines and changes in the law.
Advertising your business can be confusing and costly if you don't know what your doing. If you aren't sure how run your advertising campaign you may want to check into an advertising agencies. Starting your business with credit cards or lines of credit. This can be dangerous territory. Just keep in mind that if you finance your business with personal debt you could be setting yourself up for a fall. Trademarks and Copyrights
So you've put all this work into your business: you've got a name, you've made some marketing materials,
even written some things for your customers. If you don't want your competitors to be able to take what
you've done and exploit it, though, you're going to need to take some steps to protect yourself.
What's in a Name?
Your name is one of the most important assets your business has -- it's how your customers identify you.
Knowing your name is the first step to trusting you and recommending you to others. But what can you do if
you're afraid that someone else might start using your name, or simply start another company with a similar enough name to confuse people?
The answer is that you can register a trademark. A trademark is a word or logo that distinguishes one thing from another, and you have the right to register any names or logos your business uses, in order to stop other people from using them. Coca-Cola, for example, is a trademark of the Coca-Cola Company -- if I start selling my own drink and calling it 'Coca-Cola', or even something like 'Cocoa-Cooler', then they have grounds to sue me.
Making Your Mark.
You can trademark both your business' name as well as the names of any products you sell. The only condition is that they can't be too similar to names that someone has already trademarked, and you can't usually trademark words that are in common use.
It costs a few hundred dollars to register a trademark, and you can do it through the patent office. It can be a waste of money to trademark too many words, so you should only bother with it if you think one of your names could be threatened by competitors.
Once you get your trademark, it's yours -- you can do whatever you want with it, including giving others permission to use it or selling it to them. Remember, though, that your trademark usually only applies in the country where you registered it -- you will not usually be protected from competition where foreign businesses are using your trademark. Also, your right to use the trademark will only last for a set number of years (usually a decade from the date of registration). After this time, you will have to pay again to
renew it.
Don't Copy Me.
Copyrights are similar to trademarks in terms of the kind of protection they offer, but different in how they work. In almost all countries, ownership of copyright is automatic, and costs nothing. The moment you write (or draw, or record) something, you own the copyright on it, and can take action against anyone who makes a copy of it without your permission. This article you're reading right now, for example, has the automatic copyright. If you decided to copy it without permission and put it on your own website, then that would be illegal. Not that you would do such a thing, of course.
It is possible to own the copyright on almost anything that exists but isn't physical: music, graphics, writing, computer programs, and so on. It does not, however, cover physical things (that's patents), nor does it cover names (that's trademarks). A copyright lasts longer than a trademark: typically it lasts until you die, and then a set number of years
after that, depending on your country and the kind of thing that was copyrighted. After the end of this time, the work becomes 'public domain', free for anyone to use.
Of course, copyright is a right, not something that you absolutely must go along with. If you want to give people permission to freely use and redistribute something you've made, then you have the legal right to do this. You can even give up your copyright on a piece of work altogether, simply by writing on it that you no longer want to own the copyright.
Since you're in business, though, the chances are that you'll want more protection for your materials, not less. Look into registering your copyright at the patent office, as doing this will give you an even stronger case if you ever need to use it.

Don't Rush to Bankruptcy
What will you do if your business gets in to trouble?
When your debts start to stack up and you can't pay the bills. Your advertising budget is blown, and your expenditures are twice as much as your profits. What do you do? Well, this is the point when many people will throw in the towel. Are you one of them? I hope not because there is always a way to make it. You just have to find it.
There will always be ways to raise money for your business. Did you know that the average person has thousands of dollars worth of random stuff just lying around in their home? In other words, you can always find the money if you're really determined and not afraid of losing everything.
The only thing you should really try to protect is your house and some money for basic food -- everything else is expendable. Never forget that the worst thing that can really happen to you is that you'll have to go out and get a job. Would that really be so tragic?
Fear is your enemy in business. You cannot give in to your fear and give up before you've given it your all -- the real reason why so many home and small businesses fail is that their owners chicken out and run away at the first sign of trouble.
The Captain Goes Down with His Ship.
When the chips are down, the only thing to do is to stake your personal success on the success of your business. After all, what's the point in bailing out before you have to? You're guaranteed to lose money that way.

Try a Voluntary Agreement.
If your creditors are at the point of knocking on your door, you should try to get a voluntary agreement with them before you even consider declaring bankruptcy. This is when you negotiate your debts down to a lower level using the threat of bankruptcy, and your creditors sign an agreement with you to say that they will leave you alone once you've paid that money.
The Absolute Last Resort.
I simply cannot get across to you how much you should not consider bankruptcy as a viable option, ever, until you are absolutely forced into it. Think of it as being like suicide: the absolute last resort. Would you commit suicide because your business was going badly? I hope you answered no -- which means that you shouldn't consider bankruptcy either.
Having had a bankrupt company stays with you for a long time in everything you do: your credit rating, your employment history, and even just in the way you think of yourself day-to-day. It's better to have everything wrestled from your hands than to give it up voluntarily -- otherwise you'll always be tortured by wondering what would have happened if you'd kept going just a little longer.

Do You Have Marketing Plan?
Marketing is the real back bone of your business. Don't you think that it is important enough to need a plan,completely separate from your basic business plan? After all with out a plan how will you know where you are going. Let's go over the basic information that your marketing plan should include.
First you need a marketing strategy and a budget. It is a good idea to get the basics of your marketing plan written down, so that you can see exactly what you are aiming for. Start the process by making lists.
List of all the advertising you plan to do. Include websites, newspapers, radio, flyers, the yellow pages ect.
For each form of advertising you should assign an estimated cost. Determine how many customers you expect to reach. This will allow you to work out your cost of per customer, which is how much of you budget you need to spend on advertising to bring in one customer.
Next make a list all of the pricing policies you plan to have, as well as any special offers that you think will be good. Don't worry you can make price changes and new offers later, The idea here is to have some basic long term plans.
Another good idea is to have a list of other businesses in your area that could be considered to be competitors. You need to know who you are up against and a good plan to differentiate yourself from them.
This is just a basic outline for starting your businesses plan. Remember, when in doubt seek out help. Do a quick search for sample marketing plans online or visit your local library for more information.

Do you get everything in writing?
When you're dealing with customers, sometimes things can go wrong. It might be your fault, it might be their fault or it might be one big mix up, but if you didn't get everything in writing it will be one big mess.
Contracts are one of the most important parts of doing business, even you think they are a big pain, the pain will be worse with out them.
Every business needs contracts. They can be as simple as a sales receipt, a short hand written note or as complicated as lengthy legal document. What ever you do don't ever make a deal without one.
Without a contract, you leave yourself and your business vulnerable. Someone could claim that the terms they agreed with you were different to what you say they were, or that they never agreed to or signed for anything at all. Essentially, contracts give you the ability to prove that the transaction or agreement was made.
A contract gives you a sound legal base for your business, and some guarantee that you're going to get paid for your work without you having to ask the customer for payment in advance. In the event of a dispute, the contract lays down what the agreement was so that you can point to it and say what was agreed. If you ever end up having to go to court the contract is what the judge's decision will be based on.
According to the law there is a big distinction between a verbal contract and a written one. A verbal contract is binding in theory, but it can be very hard to prove. A written contract is solid proof that what you are saying true. A written contract is almost impossible to dispute.
It is all to easy to think things like, contracts are expensive, I can't afford to waste my money, my customers are great, I won't have a problems with them, I do just fine with out them, I don't need the hassle, why bother.
Remember that old phrase " it only takes one bad apple, to ruin the whole bunch". Well it will only take one unhappy customer to take down your business.
When you are tempted to forgo the contract keep in mind that written contracts don't need to be complicated or formal. A simple letter stating the terms of your agreement, preferably signed by all parties involved is enough to qualify as a written contract. Another simple option is purchase pre-made forms from your local office supply store or software that will help you design your own forms.
If you are dealing in high dollar amounts it could be worth the time and trouble of having a lawyer write a formal contract, or at least of doing it yourself and getting a lawyer to look it over. Formal contracts will give you more protection.
Taking the time to draw up a contract is on of the most important things you can do to protect yourself and your business.

Goal in Five Minutes a Day
Would you like to learn an absolutely free method for reaching your next goal in only five minutes a day?
You don't need to buy anything, you don't need to own anything, you don't need to go anywhere and you don't
need to have any previous experience to make this method work for you.
You already have everything you need. Just one brain, that's all you need. Let me show you one way to program your mind so that your goals come to you effortlessly.
Here is a simple technique which always works for me.
STEP ONE: THE MAGIC OF THINKING SMALL
First, pick a goal that is *just* beyond your comfort level. Many motivational teachers will urge you to shoot for the stars, think incredibly big, and go for goals which are ten times as large as anything you've ever accomplished. This may work well for people who are already confident in their power to manifest, but for the beginner, or for the person who has not had much success using mind power, the idea of thinking outrageously big is a disaster.
For example, if you haven't had a date in three years you don't want to visualize yourself scoring with bunnies at the Playboy mansion. In theory all goals are definitely achievable, but in your reality you probably don't really believe it's possible, so it won't happen. Instead, pick a goal which is reasonable and can be accomplished within a few months. In this example, you might want to have just one date in the
next three months. Not nearly as thrilling of a goal, but a fantastic step towards a better life. Or you probably want more money in your life. Instead of visualizing yourself suddenly earning $250,000 a year, start with a goal of increasing your wage or your sales by 10 per cent. Again, not exactly thrilling, but the point is you start small and build upon your success, instead of going for the home run and missing every time.
You see, after you reach that first goal you will have some confidence, and you can use that confidence to step up to the next goal, slowly but surely building a better life in the process.
STEP TWO: CREATE A DECLARATION OF INTENT
Once a day, every morning, write down the goal you've picked. Whatever it is you want to experience, just write it down once. A good format to use is a short sentence which begins with "I am now attracting...",
"I am now creating...", "I will now..." or "I now intend...
For example:
"I AM NOW ATTRACTING A LOVING RELATIONSHIP INTO MY LIFE."
"I WILL NOW SELL 10 PER CENT MORE PRODUCTS EACH MONTH."
"I AM NOW CREATING HIGHER SELF-ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE."
"I NOW INTEND TO EAT THOUGHTFULLY AND BEGIN LOSING WEIGHT."
Of course, create your own wording for your own goal. The vitally important thing is that when you say it your emotional state agrees with the statement. For example, the reason an affirmation such as "I am now exercising every day" doesn't work is because if you are not exercising every day you immediately feel it when you say it. If you say "I am now with my ideal partner" you will immediately feel the lie even before you finish saying it.
However, a statement which begins "I am now attracting..." or "I now intend..." is true (at least while you are saying it) and holds no contradiction in your emotions. Of course, this is different for everyone, so find a wording that works for you.
STEP THREE: CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS
After writing down your goal, mentally place yourself in the future, to a day where your goal has been accomplished, and *feel* the happiness and excitement you would be feeling, knowing that you have accomplished your goal.
Just pretend it is, for example, three months from today, and on that day you have reached your goal. Let's say that this future day is the day you start the new job you have been working towards, or on that day you weigh yourself and you are 10 pounds lighter, or on that day you leave for the vacation you've been dreaming about.
Whatever it is, just move forward in your mind to that day, and *PRETEND* that your goal has been reached, and *FEEL* the emotions which you would feel if you had actually reached your goal. Feel the happiness, feel the success, feel the proud accomplishment of knowing that you can use your own inner power to change your life. Imagine what next goal you'll now go for since you've reached this first one. Plan a celebration for yourself, and imagine how great you will feel when you celebrate your accomplishment.
Just generate that positive emotion for a minute or two, and just bask in it for a few moments.
STEP FOUR: ASK FOR HELP FROM YOUR FUTURE SELF
Now, while you are enjoying that feeling, looking back to today from that future moment, ask yourself what single action you can take, today, to bring your goal to you faster.
The future you which has accomplished your goal knows what steps need to be taken. From this vantage point,
you can ask yourself what is the next most practical action you can take.
When you get the answer, write it down, and take that action at some point during the day. Taking action, no matter how small, is the fastest and surest way of convincing your subconscious mind that you are serious, and will do wonders for the quick manifestation of your goals.
STEP FIVE: CHOOSE THE SAME THING EVERY DAY
Do this daily, until you are done. Work on only one goal at a time, and don't change goals unless you decide you no longer want the one you started working on. If you no longer want the goal, choose a new one and start again. But if you do want your original, don't stop until you have it.
WARNING: LACK OF PERSISTENCE IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY PEOPLE DO NOT REACH THEIR GOALS.
If you give up before you reach your goal, you obviously don't want it very much, do you? Pick a goal that you cannot live without, and start again...
This technique only takes about 5 or 10 minutes with your morning coffee and works flawlessly. *If* you do it.

A Disaster Plan
Disaster plans, do you have one?
I don't mean to be a downer but, any time you start a business, you are taking the risk that the business
might fail. What you may not have considered when you started out was along with your business plan you need
a disaster plan. Having a plan in place will help you shield yourself from risk and help you make sure that you can keep your business going even on the brink of disaster.
You need to have a plan for what you're going to do if your business looks like it is going to go under. Are you going to borrow money, raise prices, cut back or fire people. Are you willing to sell your possessions or mortgage your house, ? What will you do? This is where your disaster plan comes into play.
Just like a business plan your disaster plan will layout a list of options that you can refer to if your business runs into trouble. In your disaster plan include a list of the things that you will or will not do before you close your doors on your business.
A good disaster plan will depend a lot on how much risk you're willing to take on yourself. If you are sensible and conservative then you will go as far as you can to avoid selling or borrowing against any of your own assets to keep your business open.
If you don't lean to the conservative side and are willing to take more of a risk, then you may consider getting a loan against your car or maybe even your house. Just be prepared to lose it all if you can't recover from whatever business disaster you may encounter.
A good disaster plan also includes a recovery plan. Once you have decided what you will do to handle a business disaster you need to decide how you will recover. When writing your disaster plan consider adding these things to your list. What will you do if you keep your doors open? How will you rebuild? What will you do if you decide to go out of business? Start another business? Go back into the job market? What will you do next?
How you handle a business disaster is completely up to you. That is where having a good disaster plan comes into play. You have to decide are you going to cut your losses and walk away or dig in your heals and risk it all to make your business a huge success.

Work at Home Blues
Remember all the reasons you decided to quit your job and work from home? Like the annoying people who you had to share an office with, the daily trek to and from work or missing out on special occasions. These and so many other reasons are why so many of us start a home business. And even though you wanted to work at home all day, you might find that you start to miss all or some of the things that made you want to work at home.
Now you are all alone. You get up for another day of work. Your children are off to school, your spouse is on the way work. Even most of your neighbors are off doing their thing. Your house feels empty, and your neighborhood is deserted.
It's all too easy to stay in your pajamas and sit on the couch in this situation. You may begin to feel like your work can wait or that it is pointless. If you get stuck or you need help you have no one to turn to because it's just you, your own your own.
You may not feel like it's affecting you, but the lack of human interaction could be causing more trouble than you think. Ask yourself these questions honestly. Have you been more irritable recently, less energetic, or have you felt upset or sad without much reason. If you have, then you could be suffering from the work at home blues.
What can you do to get over it and get motivated again?
I would bet since you are running your business from home that you have a computer with Internet access. Am I right? One thing you can do is get online. Do a quick search in your industry to find few forums, especially ones dedicated to people who run home businesses. You might be pleasantly surprised to find that you are not alone at all.
Finding friends on forums or message boards can be good substitute for the lost interaction you are experiencing. More than that, it can offer you a good outlet for your frustrations and problems.

Pricing your products or services appropriately is a challenging part of any home business. You know what
you have and what you can do, but do you know how much you should be charging, without putting yourself out of business? Consider these few ideas when you are picking your price points.
First find out what the competition is charging. If they are selling a similar product or service do some snooping, make some calls, find out what they offer and how much it costs. Now compare their prices with your own. How do they measure up.
Keep in mind that just because someone else is selling for less doesn't mean you should lower your prices.
It is not always a good thing to be the cheapest out there. You might be surprised to know that you can take away a competitor's business by increasing your value and charging a higher price. One of the biggest secrets of pricing is that people assume a higher price means better quality and more value.
Here is a simple formula you can follow to help when choosing your price points. First determine your costs per item or service. Include any materials that you use like packaging, advertising, legal fees ect. Once you are done, you should have a rough estimate of how much each product you offer costs.
Next figure in a charge for your time and labor. Do this by adding the hours it takes you to complete the task, then decide what your hourly wage will be. It's up to you how much you will pay yourself. When in doubt start with minimum wage then gradually increase your wage to raise the price of the product. If you have a problem with this just think about what you might pay an employee to do the same job for you.
Now that you have added the cost and time, you need to add in a profit margin. This is typically be about 30 to 50 percent of the price you've come up with so far. You are all done. You should have the perfect price point to charge for your product or service. If you are unsure do some testing. Try selling at a slightly higher or lower price to see which sells better. Keep in mind that most often it is easier to lower prices than to raise them depending on what business you are in.

First we will discuss print ads in newspapers and magazines. There are two types of advertising in newspapers and magazines. The basic classified ad and the display ad. Classifieds are the small ads in the back of the publication. Display ads can be any size from a small two inches to a full page spread, depending on your budget.
Before you start placing ads make sure you do your research. You want to place your ads where you will get the best response. Once you have found a newspaper or magazine that you want to place an ad in call its advertising department and ask for a rate card. Keep in mind that advertising in the print media can be very expensive, so brace yourself. Make sure before you place you ad that you will have a good chance of making a return on your investment.
Another tip: ask if they have any unsold inventory. A lot of time they will have blocks of unsold ad space that you can pick up for a bargain price. These may not be the spots you were looking at but if you can get a great deal you can make it work you your advantage.
Don't forget billboards. They are the most overlooked form of print media, but they can be very effective with the right offer. Billboard ads are a bit more expensive than other print media, but when you consider that they stay up for a longer period of time, compared to the one week ads you place in the paper it may be a good option for your business.
Broadcasting your ad over the radio is another form of media advertising that you may want to consider, if your budget is big enough. Think carefully though since your message will most likely only be heard by people driving in their cars you will need a campaign that is memorable and that they will be interested in.

Hit the big time with a television ad. When your business is large and your advertising budget is larger, it might be time to make a TV commercial. But be prepared to spend the big bucks, no less than $10,000 and that will be for your local cable channels. What does your customer want?
Do you ever wonder what your customers want? Most business owners ask themselves that question daily. I know I do and I bet you do too.
I was watching one of my favorite marketers speak recently
and he said something that struck a chord with me and got
me thinking. He said "people want magic bullets".
They want the answer to their problems. A quick fix for their
woes. A simple solution that will make their world a better
place and they want it now!
That phrase made me ask, what magic bullets do my prospects want and do I have them?
How can I turn my products into the magic bullets that my
prospects can't live with out?
Side note: The best way to find out what your prospects want
is to survey them but, that is a whole other article.
Now, asking these questions won't help you get inside your
prospects mind but, it will get you in the right mind set.
Think about it. When you have a problem, you want a
solution right? You don't want to wait. Do you? You want a
quick fix and you want it now. You want a magic bullet. Guess
what so does your prospect!
Have you ever watched an infomercial and felt every button
they pushed. Felt like what they were selling was the answer
to all your problems? You just want to rip out your credit
card and say take my money! You can't wait until you can
get your hands on that magic bullet.
We all have and it's the magic bullets that get you every time.
For instance let's say your target market is acne sufferers.
If you have ever had acne you can identify with the pain and
agony that acne sufferers go through. A sufferer will try
and buy just about anything that offers relief from their

Are you starting to see? Put on your top hat and pull out your

On Line Articles
Online articles are different from print articles in many important respects. They need to be keyword optimized to be found by more readers, for example. They need to be shorter, to fit the space requirements and short attention spans of the internet world. They need to not only satisfy the reader, but to get the reader to click through to the web sites they are written to promote.
There are "rules," then, that you need to follow to maximize the effectiveness of your online articles. Break them, and you reduce the odds of turning your articles into streams of traffic and income. But not always. Here are some instances when breaking the rules is the smart thing to do.
Online Articles - Breaking The Rules
The Rule: 3 to 7 words in the title.
Short titles format better, and are often "punchier." That is, they grab attention better. The fact that you are reading this article tells us that an eleven-word title can also grab attention. A title should have a decent keyword in it, indicate what the article is about, and be catchy. If it takes more than seven words to do this effectively, break the rule! Shorter words may help if you have ten of them, though.
The Rule: Primary keyword in the title.
This makes it easier for people to find the article in the search engines. When should you break this rule? When you have already targeted the primary keywords for a topic in other articles, and you have more to write. In other words, if you have already written articles using the keywords "skydiving," and "skydiving safety," and any other good related keywords, you can go for a purely "catchy" title on the next article.
"My Parachute Didn't Open" may not contain good keywords, but it will certainly catch the attention of anyone browsing the directories where you have posted the article. This can mean additional traffic to your web site, in addition to that which comes from your optimized articles.
The Rule: Keyword in the "anchor text."
The idea here is to link to your site using keywords you want to optimize the site for. This is generally a good idea, but there are two reasons to break this rule. First, if you don't have the full URL (starting with http://) of the site there, it is likely that some publishers will screw up your link. An article without a link to your web site won't help you much. Second, if the keyword is already in the URL, you are all set. For example, 999ideas.com is already optimizing for "ideas" just by making a link of the URL.
The Rule: Short articles.
Short articles (300 to 800 words) are more likely to be published by others. They are also more suited to the short attention spans online. If your article really needs 1300 words to reasonably cover the topic - break the rule! Know that it will be less likely to be published on other sites, but it will be there for readers in the article directories that you submit it to - at least those that allow longer articles.
Another way to approach this problem, is to split the article into two parts. Post the first part in directories, noting that the article continues on your web site (link to that page in the resource box). This will almost guarantee that it won't be published much, but on the other hand, if it a good article, finishing it is a very compelling reason for readers to click through to your web site.
There are other article-writing rules that can be profitably broken at times. For example, you normally want an article to generate as much traffic as possible for your site, but the nature of that traffic matters
too, right? Perhaps getting less traffic, but traffic that is full of buyers, is better. You can see that knowing the reasons for the rules helps you know when to break them. The bottom line when writing online articles? Do what works. If it helps you get more income - break those rules.
RULE # 2 Don't Write Just For Readers
Online articles have to written in a way that gets the readers attention, holds it through the article, and gets the click through to your web site. Writing for the reader may be the most important part of online writing. However, it isn't the only important part.
Who else do you need to write for? If you want your articles to go beyond the directories in which you post them, you have to write for newsletter and web site owners - potential publishers of your articles. Ideally, your online articles should spread around the internet, creating more and more incoming links for your website. Each of these links is a potential stream of income.
For example, when I wrote an article for my web site, The Secret Information Site .com, I posted it in several directories. I didn't get much traffic directly from the directories, but soon a decent web site took and published the article in their newsletter and on the site. Within weeks, they had generated dozens of sales of my ebook for me. This was almost a year ago, and I still get sales from there every week.
Writing Online Articles For Webmasters
Newsletter publishers and web site owners like an interesting article, the same as any readers. However, they have other concerns as well. They are running a business, so they want an article that helps generate income. Here are some of the specific things they look for.
1. Generally one link in your author's resource box should be enough for your purposes. More than that, and you are likely to scare away potential users of your article. Site owners don't want too many non-paying ways for visitors to leave their site. They get your article without direct cost, but they "pay" you for your article with that link, and three links my be too expensive. It is also bad form to put links in online articles now - keep them to the resource box.
2. For the sake of the publishers of your articles and the readers, articles should be informative or entertaining, but not a sales pitch. Selling should be limited to the "About The Author" box.
3. They are short. Long article mean slower loading times for the pages they are published on. There also has to be room for the publishers advertising, navigational links, and more. If you keep your articles between 300 and 800 words, they will be published more often.
4. They have simple HTML. Many publishers just copy articles from a directory without copying the HTML code. They know how to make the link active, but they may not want to recreate your highlighting, side bars and graphics. Use bold tags and italics, and not much else.
5. They are keyword optimized. The publisher should be able to recognize the primary keyword in the title, and see it in the first and last paragraphs of the article. Notice that "on line articles" is used in the title, and body of this article. A publisher hopes that your article will generate new search engine traffic to his site, so decent keyword optimization makes your article more likely to be chosen.
RULE 3 Write Articles For The Reader
Why do you write articles for distribution online? If it is just so you can be an "author," you can skip this article. If it is to generate traffic to your website, you need to be writing for the reader. Here are some ways to do that.
1. Write articles on topics that interest you. This may seem contrary to the idea of writing for the reader, but it isn't. It is safe to assume that you are not the only one interested in a given topic. Writing about your own interests keeps you motivated, and you'll usually do a better job. You also normally will have more knowledge to share in an area of interest than in an area you just chose because it is popular.
2. Write a title that catches the reader's attention. There are many ways to do this, and this is a topic worthy of it's own article. The short lesson? Use words like "how to," "easy ways to," ten ways to," "secrets," and "try this." Titles that are questions can be effective too.
3. Make your writing easy on the eyes. Don't have sentences that go on and on endlessly, with more words than are necessary to make the point and without enough commas to break them up into digestible parts, and with no good reason to be that long, and which easily could have been cut into two or more shorter, easier-to-read sentences that would have been more relaxing to read - in other words, avoid sentences like this one. Oh, and have concise paragraphs of two to six sentences.
4. You should, of course, try to write articles that are truly useful, interesting or entertaining. If you can do all three in one article, that's great. At the very least, though, try to include something in your article that will be new to the average reader. Second best is describing things they already know, but in new ways. You often have to cover the same points as similar articles, but do more than that as well.
5. Keep the language simple. After scrutinizing many articles, I consider the evidence to be incontrovertible that pretentiousness in the elucidation of your information makes the loss of the reader ineluctable. In other words, use too many big words and you'll scare away many readers. You can say what you like using simple words like the ones in this sentence. No reader will stop reading a good article because the language is too simple.
6. Write a resource box that make it easy for the reader to see where he can go for more information. A list of your dozen degrees and awards will not impress him or be helpful. Say one or two things about yourself, then have a clear link, and a description of what the reader will find at your web site.
This is a short lesson on how to write articles for readers. You should also use the right keywords, so readers can find the article, and write an article description that makes them want to read it. If you also
want your articles used by others, you have to write articles not only for readers, but for newsletter and web site owners. That, however, is a topic for another article.
Highest Paying Google AdSense Keywords
A friend sent me a list of supposedly highest paying keywords for contextual advertising. I wonder is this true or whether this is just a gimmick to make other people believe so... and me supporting the hype by reproducing it here? For your amusement the partial list is at the end of this article. (and don't be surprised if google actually serves you those ads matching those keywords.)
Assuming that whoever produced this list is correct, by looking at the data one can tell that NY and Chicago lawyers are willing to pay a lot of money to get a potential customer via on line ads.
But can someone explain why mesothelioma is in the top rank? Is it because people are afraid to get it? Or is it because many people have it already?
Google doesn't allow porn ads, otherwise we would have been drowning in nasty ads, which probably would have had the highest click rate ever.

RULE 4 The Article Submission
Is fast article submission really important? For some of us it is. It may not be if you are just going to submit an article or two and leave it at that. However, if you hope to use articles as a regular part of your marketing plan for your website, it becomes very important.
The first time I wrote an article to promote one of my web sites, it took me hours just to write it. Then the article submission process took another hour - for just one article directory. I was slow! Now, most articles take me less than an hour to write. I submit an article almost every morning to a dozen directories, and this takes me just fifteen minutes.
Now, does speed matter that much? Well, in the last twelve months, I have submitted 150 articles to directories (don't worry - you don't need to write this much to effectively promote your sites). Suppose I took twelve minutes for each directory submission, instead of the 75 seconds it actually takes me. That would be 212.5 hours extra in the last year, or 8.5 of my 15-hour work weeks!
Efficient Article Submission
It isn't about rushing or moving fast. You simply need a simple process or system for anything that you repeatedly do. A simple process makes article submission more relaxing, not less so.
Compose your articles in Windows Notepad files or any simple word processing program. Create a systematic way to format everything - one that works for you - and then stick with it.
Once I have written an article, I copy and paste it into the file again. Then I add bold tags or italics or heading tags as necessary to the first version. This way I have a version ready for the directories that accept HTML and those that don't. Each article also has a two sentence description and a list of keywords, ready to copy and paste into the submission forms.
I have a numbered list of directories I submit to, with the URL of the submission page ready to be copied and pasted into the browser to speed things along. I write the article titles on a list. As I submit them I jot down the number of the article directory. Sometimes directories have technical problems for a day or a month. With my simple tracking list, I can go back later to submit the article to those that were missed.
When submitting articles, you have to open and close (expand and minimize) files repeatedly as you fill in the submission form. To save time on forms that require my name, I copy the title and name together, paste it into the "title" box on the form, then cut the name and paste it into the appropriate box. This will make more sense once you try it - it means opening and close the file one less time.
I copy and paste the article description and the keywords into the form, if that article directory requires these. I copy the article body along the resource box. After pasting the article into the form, I cut the resource box and paste it into the appropriate box. Again, this is to open and close the file one less time. Look for any little tricks that work for you to speed things up.
If you have an auto-fill feature on your browser, use it. When forms asking for email, name, or anything else are highlighted yellow, you can usually fill them in with these tools. At directories that require my name and email address, I just click my auto-fill button, and those fields are filled in for me. I use this tool dozens of times daily, saving me a lot of typing.
I also highly recommend getting a keyboard with "cut," "copy" and "paste" buttons. These are much faster than navigating up to "edit," finding "copy," then opening it again to use the "paste" function. This little feature has saved me twenty hours of work in the last year alone - well worth the small price.
There are more ways that I speed up the process, but there is no reason you have to do it the way I do. The important point is that you should be spending more time writing good articles than submitting them.

Amazing New Mind Power Secret
Almost all mind power books say that one has to visualize in order to get results. But for me, and I dare say many of my friends/readers, visualizing is extremely difficult: all I can summon up in my imagination is a vague picture, lacking vivid colour and depth, lasting for no more than a second or two. This left me very frustrated, and I was close to giving up mind power altogether when I hit upon the idea which I will explain to you in a moment. A friend of mine whose hobby was expensive hi-fi equipment had been saving
for a certain component costing just over $800. He had saved about $500 when, alas, he damaged his car. He was only insured for third party, fire and theft, so he had to foot the bill for the damage which left him with only $25.
I thought that this would be a good opportunity for testing my idea. He followed my instructions faithfully and within one month he had the component in his bedroom.
It happened that he won a competition in a magazine which gave a first prize of $1000 worth of hi-fi of your choice from a large hi-fi shop in London. This was the first time my friend, who frequently enters such competitions, had won anything.
The results from this first test made me very excited so I decided to try a second experiment with another friend of mine. He wanted a girlfriend, but he wouldn't settle for any girl - he wanted a particular girl.
For this reason it cost him a few pounds to have a photograph of her, which he took secretly, enlarged. This delayed the result of the experiment by a couple of weeks, but had he not been so particular it would have happened more quickly because any picture of a woman with similar features to what his ideal woman looked like would have brought results. He got his girl in five weeks. He did not have to try - she came to him.
Since these e xperiments with my friends I have enjoyed very satisfactory results from using the same idea for myself. I have always wanted to play the guitar and have tried many times, but with no success. In the past six months
I have progressed more than I ever thought possible; and can now even play solos and lead breaks.
I have also just ordered my first brand new car for delivery when the new registration comes out. It is costing over $7000 for which I don't need a loan: I can pay cash which I think is not bad as I have only just turned 21 years of age. I seem to be receiving money from all sorts of unexpected sources, and I believe it is all down to the mind power idea I am about to reveal to you.
The idea came to me after reading about the use of subliminal advertising in cinemas in the 1950s, I think it was. A frame of the film being shown would every so often contain the name of a brand of drink; but the name would not be perceived by the viewer's consciousness. It was however noted by the subconscious mind with the result that people would automatically seek out the brandname drink in question, having no idea that they had been influenced to do this by the film they saw! Eventually this form of advertising was made
illegal. I experienced what must have been a similar, if less subtle, technique when I saw a video of the film The Exorcist. Every so often a leering demonic face would appear for a split second or so and to this day, try as I might, I cannot forget it. I saw the film again the other day and it wasn't in it so I
think they must have stopped putting it in.
Now here is my mind power idea. I will use an example of money which is what everybody wants. If you want $1000 write this amount on a large sheet of paper. Write in big, clear print. Now stick this paper on the wall facing your bed. The next thing you need is a flashlight, preferably one with a straight forward on/off switch - not one of those where you have to press the button once for 'on' and again for `off`, this type is too slow. Next you need an alarm clock which you should set off at a time when you know you will be in deep sleep and when it will be pitch black in darkness.
Keep your flashlight within arm's reach of your bed and when the alarm clock goes off stop it and immediately grab the flashlight. Now looking towards where you stuck your sheet of paper flash the flashlight at it three times, allowing
one or two seconds between each time.
When this is done return to sleep and do not think further about the money you want.
If you desire a new car get a large picture of the car you want and write over it 'My car' and stick this on the wall. If you want a girl or boyfriend do as my friend did, or the other way I mentioned if you do not desire a particular person. There is no end to the objectives to which my idea can be applied: just write your desire on a sheet of paper or use a large picture of what you want and stick it to the wail. The instructions are the same no matter what the nature of your aim.
You should aim for just one thing at a time until your aim is accomplished. Then you can begin something else. Follow my instructions until your aim is accomplished. Then you can start something else. Follow my instructions every
night until you get a result. Results may take days, weeks, or even months in some cases, so please be patient.

For those who find it hard to visualize this novel mind power method must be a fantastic idea. And nothing could be simpler. But for some of you there may be one distinct hindrance to this application: the use of an alarm clock in the middle of the night. This obviously presents a problem to anyone who sleeps in the same room as another.
The point of using an alarm clock is to arouse one from deepest slumber: that moment of awakening when the subconscious mind is particularly receptive to any impression it receives. But the subconscious is just as acutely receptive
when one awakens in the dead of night to answer nature's call. So at that time one can use the flashlight light on the wall, as suggested.
For the individual who sleeps the whole night without interruption, an alternative idea might be to look at the wall as soon as one awakes,close eyes for a second or two, look again; and then repeat twice. After the third time close eyes for a few minutes and do not think of what you looked at on th e wall. Then - providing you haven't fallen asleep. again! - get up and begin your day. For those unfamiliar with the word, the 'subconscious' is that part of our mind of which we are not aware. It is that hidden area of the mind whichcontrols our feelings and actions and indeed is far more powerful than our 'conscious' mind, that area of mind of which we are aware, and with which we think and reason.
Whilst many writers appear to disagree on the most effective way of exploiting the potential power of the mind, they all seem to agree on one central point: that it is the subconscious mind and not the conscious mind which holds the key to turning wishes into realities. How and why this is so is really not known although many have put forward explanations. But it suffices to say that if the subconscious can turn our dreams into realities then we should make use of its power and enjoy the benefits - and leave the explanations to the experts!
The subconscious, whilst being more powerful than its limited conscious counterpart, is not able to help you without your specific instruction . It has to be told that you want so-and-so. And the way to instruct it is through
simple words and images. The subconscious does not respond to, nor understand, long words or complicated instructions. This is why I regard this system both valuable and potent.
The uses to which this novel system can be applied are virtually limitless:
acquiring or improving skills ... receiving solutions to problems ... influencing other people ...self-improvement ... improving your memory ... reading faster ... the realization of almost any objective. The subconscious can do anything for
you!
The author doesn't provide specific instructions for each of the so many objectives which could be realized through his system; but it is obvious, based on what he has written, that if one seeks more confidence one would put on the wall something like 'I Am More Confident' or 'I Am Confident and Self- Assured'; or place on the wall a picture of someone who represents your idea of possessing great self-confidence. Your subconscious will then take it that you want to be like this person. This idea can be adapted, changed or altered to fit the needs of each individual reader. But the principle remains the same: Awake in the night or morning and glance at the script or picture on the wall. Nothing could be simpler and I am certain that at least some readers will derive great benefits.
